nota

Tehuelche:Shünam. / This seems to be a word shared with the Tehuelche (Aonekko ʼaʼien) language. Alredy in 1670 the Jesuit Nicolás Mascardi gives the form 'chunanes' for ‘venado’ in the vecinity of Lake Nahuelhuapi. Musters (1911) gives 'shóen' for ‘large deer', Lehmann-Nitsche (1915-16) gives 'shün-nam' or 'shǚnam' for ‘venado’ and Schmid (1910) 'sōnem' for 'deer'. I am greateful to Carlos Leiva for advancing this possibility. Alternatively, this could simply be a miscommunication, meaning 'what for?'
